SAFARI DESCRIPTION
Located in northern Kenya, Samburu National Reserve offers a truly wild and untamed safari experience. Set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, this arid but beautiful region is a sanctuary for unique wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and rich Samburu culture. Unlike the more commonly visited southern parks, Samburu is known for its “Special Five” species that are rarely seen elsewhere in Kenya. These include the grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, somali ostrich, and the elegant gerenuk (a long necked antelope). The landscape is rugged, dotted with doum palms, red dust, and rocky outcrops creating a stunning backdrop for game drives. The Ewaso Nyiro River is the lifeblood of the reserve, attracting elephants, lions, and leopards, especially during dry seasons. Samburu is also deeply tied to its people, the Samburu tribe, cousins to the Maasai, who offer cultural richness and tradition through dances, beadwork, and stories passed down through generations. If you’re seeking an off the beaten path experience filled with authenticity, rare wildlife, and quiet beauty Samburu delivers.
