Gorilla Tracking in Uganda

Summary Itinerary

The itinerary offers a perfect blend of adventure, cultural experiences, and wildlife tracking. You’ll divide your time equally between travelling through Kenya and Uganda, with the highlight being a gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Day  1; Nairobi to Kampala

0830hrs, board your flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Entebbe in Uganda. The flight takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. At 1000hrs, upon arrival, check into your hotel in Entebbe. Spend the day exploring the peaceful town, which lies on the shores of Lake Victoria. At 1230hrs, have lunch at the hotel. Set out to visit the Uganda Museum after lunch at 1400hrs and learn about Uganda’s cultural heritage and history. At 1500hrs, visit the Buganda Kingdom Palace for insights into the history of the Buganda Kingdom. At 1800hrs, head back to the to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2; Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park

0700hrs, enjoy a hearty breakfast and check out of the hotel. At 0800hrs, drive to Lake Mburo National Park. The journey is approximately 4 hours from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park, with scenic views of Uganda’s rolling hills and countryside. At 1200hrs, arrive at the lodge and check in at the lodge. Enjoy a buffet-style lunch at your lodge. At 1500hrs, embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive to spot wildlife. At 1700hrs, take a relaxing boat ride at Lake Mburo, watching hippos and crocodiles while enjoying the sunset over the tranquil waters. After a day filled with adventure, unwind with a sumptuous dinner at your lodge and overnight.

Day 3; Lake Mburo to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

0700hrs, have a hearty breakfast at your hotel, fueling up for the journey ahead. Check out of the hotel at 0800hrs, start your road trip to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the heart of Uganda’s gorilla tracking experience. The drive takes 6 to 7 hours, passing through scenic landscapes. At 1200hrs, enjoy a packed lunch while traveling, prepared by the lodge. At 1400hrs, arrive at Bwindi lodge and check into your lodge. Have an afternoon at leisure afterwards. At 1900hrs, have dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4; Gorilla Tracking In Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

0600hrs, have an early breakfast at the lodge to fuel up for the day’s adventure. At 0700hrs, meet your guide at the Bwindi Park Headquarters for briefing on the rules and guidelines for Gorilla Tracking. You will be assigned to a gorilla family group to track. Set off on your trek through the dense forest, led by an experienced ranger. At 1200hrs, spend an hour observing a family of mountain gorillas. Watch as they interact, play and go about their daily lives. At 1300hrs, after the trek, return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch. Have an afternoon at leisure afterwards. At 1800hrs, enjoy dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5; Forest Activities

0700hrs, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge. At 0900hrs, set out for a guided nature walk through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is home to many bird species, butterflies and monkeys. At 1300hrs, return to the lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon. At 1800hrs, enjoy an evening of cultural performances from local groups, including traditional dances and songs, At 1900hrs, enjoy dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 6; Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park

0800hrs, after breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes. The drive takes about 4 to 5 hours. At 1300hrs, arrive in Mweya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National  Park and enjoy a delicious lunch. At 1500hrs, Take a 2 hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which links lake Edward and lake George. The channel is one of the park’s highlights. At 1700hrs, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 7; Queen Elizabeth National Park to Entebbe 

0600hrs, start your day with an early morning game drive to catch the predators at their most active as they hunt in the golden hours of dawn. At about 0900hrs, return to the lodge for a relaxing breakfast after your game drive. At 1000hrs, embark on a chimpanzee tracking experience at Kyambura Gorge, a forested valley with Queen Elizabeth National Park. The gorge is home to a habituated group of chimpanzees and the trek offers a chance to see them in their natural habitat. Return back to the lodge for lunch at 1200hrs, and check out afterwards. At 1300hrs, depart to Entebbe by road. It is approximately 8 hours. The drive will take you through small towns, banana plantations and scenic views of Uganda’s country side. At 2000hrs, arrive at Entebbe and check into Lake Serena Resort and Spa. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 8;  Entebbe to Nairobi

0700hrs, start your day with a relaxed breakfast and check out of the hotel. At 0800hrs, head to Entebbe airport for your flight back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, check in at Entebbe International Airport and board the flight at 1000hrs. The flight is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. At 1130hrs, arrive in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Upon arrival, meet your concierge at arrival who will assist and guide you to your designated driver for your transfer to your hotel or residence.
